Mosques Dome
Domes in Persian Vernacular Architecture
Domes have played a central role in Persian and Islamic architecture for centuries, symbolizing both the heavens above and the unity of creation. Technically and spiritually significant, domes serve as architectural focal points in mosques, shrines, and religious institutions.
A major Persian innovation that enabled the construction of large and elegant domes was the squinch—a structural technique using concentric arches to transition from a square base to a circular or octagonal dome support. This advancement allowed Persian architects to create soaring, majestic domes that became hallmarks of Islamic architecture.
